Living at Cougar Village

Shortly after I finished college at St. Louis Community College, I moved to SIUE's Cougar Village apartments for the summer. I took one class and came home on the weekends. The reason I stayed here was that to be considered for in-state tuition, one must be living in state for at least 6 months. Only after this 6 months will you be considered an Illinois resident and eligible for the lower tuition. You would think SIUE would have an agreement with the St. Louis area to allow for the cheaper tuition, since the city is so close to the campus. Oh well, it's a crappy divided nation we live in...

So anyway, when I arrived at Cougar Village, I was supposed to have two roommates. However, I found out from my new roomate Tyler that the other student moved. This helped substantially because now Tyler and I could both have our own bedrooms. So, after a THOROUGH THOROUGH cleaning of the place (did I mention THOROUGH?), the place soon started feeling much nicer and more like home. Unfortunately, SIUE does not approve of parents helping thier children clean the place, as was the case when my mom received a parking ticket for not having a tag. I mean, really, there were about 100 parking spaces, it's the summer, and hardly anybody's there. Are you that greedy, SIUE? Luckily, I got the parking ticket waived, after explaining the situation to the authorities.

After about 3 weeks of living with Tyler (which seemed horrible to me at the time, but not now), I showed up one say to find he was gone! A few days later, I found Tyler on the parking lot, and he said he had to move out due to manditory reassignment of the students each year. Wow... so I now had an entire apartment to MYSELF! What a rare luxury! (Though I must admit, it was rather boring too...)

So there you have it. My life at Cougar Village: Short and sweet... But I would only remain there for the summer...

It doesn't look like much, but it's more than enough for just one person. To the left side: walk-out balcony The kitchen was the nicest part - very large with lots of cabinet space plus a fridge and stove
The bedroom was straight-forward. It had tile flooring, so we brought in carpet pieces to cozy it up. Shower curtain, towels, and bath mat provided by Mom. Oh, and trust me, it wasn't like this before...
