Weather and Skies

I have always been awestruck by the sheer beauty of the skies and the unpredictability of weather. From time to time, I take pictures of the skies or of winter weather, because often times, the results are amazing. These pictures were all taken when I lived at home in St. Louis.

One day during a sunset, I noticed this very unique pattern of clouds high in the sky. The cloud bank literally looks like it is being shredded apart into equal pieces. Plus, it forms a very distinct curve that flows outward. A closeup of the broken-up clouds. From this view, it almost resembles a perfect triangle of evenly spaced clouds. With a little imagination, it even looks like a tornado.
A look at my backyard with a nice blanket of snow. Another look at the snow.
And now a look at that spot during the Ice Storm of December 2006. A look at the neighbors' ice-covered trees across the street. Oh, I guess we really do have "icicle lights" now!
A look down the street, ice and snow all around. A look at our front yard tree... it's touching the ground...
Here is what happens when it sleets, rains, refreezes, and snows. A closer look at the frozen mixture.
A cozy look at my house on a White Christmas in the early 90's. The remnants of Hurricane Ike caused major flooding in the Chicago area in 2008. This is a look at my apartment complex's bridge, almost underwater.
This is the other side of my apartment. This road is technically closed, but some people apparently think their cars are actually boats... These unfortunate people could not get inside their cars due to the high water.
Unlike some storm fronts that gradually move in, this distinct line was heading in FAST. Within 20 minutes, it went from clear skies to nonstop lightning. A look at the line edge, hovering over the apartment complex. Quite ominous indeed.
