Trip 4 - "Death Ridge" (2nd Run)
Observations:
1.) There is some kind of shrine here at the trailhead. There are wooden carvings imbedded in the ground in a circle. An old roommate of mine said they would “go Pagan Hunting” somewhere near Woodland Hall. As crazy as this sounds, I suspect that this place could be where they were talking about.
2.) On a high piece of land sticking out into the stream, there sits a giant 6 foot dirt cube. I have absolutely no idea where it came from or how it got here, but I do know it is man-made.
3.) Around this section, trees are being cut down for the proposed Evergreen Hall – a residence hall exclusively for Seniors as an alternative to Cougar Village. Would have been nice to have that done before I left SIUE!
4.) This is probably one of the most dangerous spots on a trail around campus. There is a small stream dividing the trail. The trail on the other side is on top of a high piece of land. And, there is no bridge. But there is a “conveniently” placed log. Even still, it was partially washed away, and it looked like it could tumble down at any moment. I proceeded with caution, holding on to nearby branches as I balanced across the log to the high trail on the other side. Again, I see NO WAY that bikes could do this!
5.) There is a trailhead to this trail by Whiteside Road that has a “No Trespassing” sign. All other trailheads do not say this, so how is one supposed to know what part of the path is “illegal?”
6.) There is a rickety old bridge here. Proceed with caution.
7.) For whatever reason, there is a wide grass path here that leads up to the Prairie Hall parking lot. Makes you think.
