Trip 5 - "Death Ridge" (3rd Run)
Observations:
1.) Deer can be seen frequently in this forest.
2.) There is a trailhead here at University Drive, but it only goes to overgrown prairie grass and the Drink Area. As it is, there is no clear trail cutover to the actual dirt trail I was on.
3.) This trail just thins out gradually, until there is no discrete path left. One word of caution: watch out for wild thorn weeds. They look a lot like other miscellaneous weeds, except they are red in color with green thorns.
4.) Yeah, there’s fungus everywhere on trees, but this particular batch of fungus was enormous!
5.) In this area, you can see signs of trail restoration. Trees blocking trails have been sawed off. I could tell it was done recently since there was sawdust on the trail.
6.) Several signs around here say “Trail closed for restoration,” but there is no rhyme or reason for their locations; and they look to be over 10 years old.
